5 Tips For Media Interviews

We’ve learned a lot in more than 30 years of delivering media training. Here’s five tips to get you started for a successful media interview (oh, they are no-brainers but useful pointers):

In no particular order:

> Know the topic of the interview and stick to your key talking points.

> Don’t go ‘on the sell’. If you deliver thinly-disguised advertising it is unlikely to be treated as news. Take out an ad.

> Be concise. There is no time for long complex answers. You will be taken out of content.

> Support your messages with evidence such as facts or examples.

> Humanise your answers. People care about people. Every topic has a human factor. Find it and deliver it.
